Doing Things I've Never Done

With all the changes I've been through this year, I've discovered that I actually had a very surprising reaction to change - I actually am learning how to roll with it.  Not only am I learning to roll with it, but I'm even more open to new ideas and new experiences than I've ever been before.

Couple that notion with people who are actually listening when you speak and putting your thoughts into action, and you've got yourself a new way of looking at the world.

You'd like an example of this?  Guess what I'm doing tonight.  No seriously.  Make my day, punk.

I'll give you a few hints.  Take a look at the following pictures and you might get a better idea of what's going down.

You've probably been able to deduce by now that I am, in fact, camping tonight.  Outside.  In the dark.  When it's going to get down to the low 30's.  When there will be "patches of frost."  In a tent.  That is going to happen.

Ordinarily, folks would say, "Well, Chicken Wing, why would you be so shocked that you're going camping?"

Because Chicken Wing + camping =

Hot - Yes.  Camper - No.
So, wish me luck, Peeps.  I'll be sure to update you on how this goes.  Technically, this was my idea.  I was the one who said, "I think I'd like to go camping sometime."  Little did I know that I would be presented with a tent, sleeping bags, folding bag chairs, and the promise of a campfire and s'mores.

Moral of this story:  Be careful what you wish for.

Just for fun, and because it's Friday, I will leave you with a video that will most likely be occurring again tonight - my beloved Jessica Simpson and her then-husband, Nick Lachey....camping.  It's one of my favorites of the Newlyweds episodes (yes, I own all three seasons on DVD.  Don't hate.).  It's also a wee bit long, but definitely worth the time if you have it.

Good Advice For Free

If you haven't heard this amazing song by Lee Brice, most likely you haven't heard any country music recently.  But, every now and again, you hear a song that really resonates with you and drives home a message so important that you have to pass it on.

Love Like Crazy is one of those songs for me.  I had heard it a couple of times when it first started getting radio play, and I loved it then too! I continually hoped that I would hear it again, and it just wasn't working out for me, but here in the past week or so, I've heard it almost every day. I smile every time I do.  So, without further ado, here is a great message, great advice, great singer, and great song...Love Like Crazy.

Some very good advice.

I'm Coming Home

Okay, so it's Friday and I am officially excited because this evening is the start of my college's Homecoming Weekend!  It also happens to be my five year reunion (and I will be spending a large amount of time this weekend wondering how in the world that happened).

Homecoming always means seeing the faces of the ones you lived your life with in college - the ones you laughed with, the ones you cried with, the ones who kept your secrets, and the ones who trusted you to keep theirs.  It's literally a family reunion, because during your college years, they became your family.  For some, college was so far from home they had no choice but to adapt, which sometimes meant they came to your house for Thanksgiving or Fall Break.

College is a formative time in your life where you first get to make important decisions for yourself.  What clubs or groups will you join? What sports will you play?  What on-campus jobs will you hold?  What internship will you go for?  It may seem trivial, but you are building your identity, and for the first time, your parents aren't the ones giving you the answers.  It's nice to know you have your new family around you to support you in all you do.

So, posting will be light this weekend because I rarely get to enjoy the company of these fantastic family members now that we're out in the real world and I plan to enjoy them to the fullest while we're all together again!  And now, an important message from Chris Daughtry:

Good Music Alert!

As always, when I find goodness, I would much rather pass it along than keep it to myself.  Consider this another of my random acts of selflessness!  A friend of mine made me privvy to a music group that I think is fantastic!  They're called The Band Perry and the members are Kimberly, Neil, and Reed Perry, and they're siblings.  I happen to think that's awesome!

I wanted to share some of their songs with you, and I think you'll enjoy the slightly country, slightly indie inflections they bring to the table.  The songs are precious, and are pretty much guaranteed to get your attention.  So, let's not delay this any further - here we go!

First up, If I Die Young.

Next, All Your Life.

Third in the batter's box is a catchy diddy, Hip To My Heart.

Finally, here's Postcard from Paris.

I hope you like what you've heard so far.  The Band Perry's debut album drops October 12, which is right around the corner!  I think I'll be purchasing a copy and if you like them, I hope you do the same!  Also, be sure to check out their website to learn more about these up-and-coming superstars!
