A Great Old-Fashioned Day!

I don't know about all of you faithful followers, but I know that one thing that makes me smile is when I experience something that has been the same way since the beginning of time (or in my case, since I was born....hey, that was the beginning of time for me!).

Whether it be a family reunion, or the taste of homemade ice cream (you know, the kind you had to put the dry ice around and let spin forever and ever, but was the best thing you'd ever tasted in your life), some things are just better left untouched. You know the old saying - if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Well, I got to experience one of those "old-fashioned" situations this past weekend when Maternal Grandma Chicken Wing, Little Sister Chicken Wing, and myself had a YARD SALE!!! Yes, we had my first ever yard sale!

Don't get me wrong....I have been to yard sales before, but I've never had a yard sale, so this was extremely exciting for me. It was a hot and sunny Saturday, and we had a lot of foot traffic in the tiny town where I grew up. I saw old friends that I haven't seen since high school (or some before that, even!), and met new people who had recently moved to the area. I even made more money that I ever expected to, so that was a pleasant surprise!!!

I made posters and hung them up around town so people would know how to get to Maternal Grandma Chicken Wing's house, and I got so excited every time someone mentioned, "Well, I saw your bright green sign and decided to swing by" or "I've never been down this street before, but when I saw your sign, I had to drive by." It was great!

I think the other thing that was so exhilerating about the yard sale was that I knew I was getting rid of a lot of things that 1) were cluttering my house and leaving less room for Mr. Chicken Wing and myself and 2) were going to make someone else really happy! I was thrilled to give new life to some of these items that had been collecting dust at my house. When little children purchased stuffed animals at next-to-nothing prices, they just lit up with excitement, and it melted my heart! They were actually able to afford new toys with their tiny allowances, and the feeling that they had just "bought" these things made them even more happy!

All in all, it was an awesome day. Even though I got up super early (5:30am!!! YIKES!!!), and even though I got a teensy bit sunburned, it was such a wonderful day. And, I got to spend it with Maternal Grandma and Little Sister Chicken Wing, which was probably the coolest part.

I always welcome the times when I get to have old-fashioned experiences, and I hope all of you do, too! I think I will make a pitcher of cherry Kool-Aid when I get home and enjoy it on the back patio because that is another old-fashioned experience that never ever gets old!

Until next time,
Miss Nostalgic Chicken Wing
