Something I Learned Today...

They say that you "learn something new every day," and I, for one, believe that to be true. In fact, I know it to be true (unless you are having an incredibly slow day).

Something that I learned today about the "real world" is that there are people that you are supposed to be able to trust that will lie to you for no apparent reason at all. Maybe it's because they don't respect you, or because they're higher up than you but I feel that is not an excuse.

I choose not to go into details, because talking badly about people isn't really my cup of tea. No good comes out of that, and the high road is always better than the low road or the same road the "offender" has chosen. I choose to not walk along with them.

The one good thing about this lesson that I've learned today is that I will be more careful in the future. Now that I have seen what this person is capable of, I will be much wiser day-to-day. That is a great thing, so for that, I can only thank the liar.

Sorry to rant and run, but I just wanted to send a message to my followers: there will always be people who will try to get you down, but they can only get you down if you allow them to!

Until next time,
Chicken Wing

The Saddest I've Been In a While....

Rest in peace, Michael.

I really hope you were able to leave this world with even the tiniest realization of your incredible impact on it. I hope you felt no pain. You will be so missed.

I don't really have any other words at this time. Maybe I'll find some later.

Until next time,
A deeply-saddened Chicken Wing

Traveling = Love.

If there has ever been anything on my MUST DO list, traveling is it! I love traveling! I love packing the suitcases and the car (I know, you're thinking I can't be serious, but I am!). I love that feeling of "putting the puzzle together" when you look at the open back of a Ford Explorer and see the possibilities of the neatest and most efficient way to pack your things into it. Sure, it will be floor to ceiling, but each item will have been placed there on purpose, with love. :)

Yeah, it's safe to say that I am a total freak about some things. Packing a car and containers are two of those things. (I absolutely adore cute things to store other cute things in. There are so many storage options out there these days - the best part is that you no longer have to sacrifice style for functionality). I heart containers!

But, let's veer sharply back to the topic at hand - traveling. Most folks look most forward to the big trips - that all-inclusive resort in the Mayan Riviera, the coastal tour of Greece, the all-impressive tour of Italy that is gorgeous enough to stop your breathing. Those are all on my "dream travels" list, but I sometimes get really excited for the little trips. You know the ones I'm talking about - the 2-3 hour trips to visit family and friends, even if it's just for a few days. I, for one, get really excited and pumped for these trips.

I must show you one of the biggest reasons why!

CiCi and MuChi riding in my lap - passenger side!

On the big trips, my furbabies can't come along...on the shorter ones, they can, and how I do love to have them with me! There really is nothing that compares to "children" who unconditionally love you and would give anything in the world just to come with you!

Mr. Chicken Wing and I love to bring them along - they get SO excited when we ask them the following questions:

"MuChi, do you want to go for a ride?"

"CiCi, you want to go in the car-car?"

(They were brought up using different terminology so we have to use both)! HeHe!

Okay, so faithful followers out there:
What about travel gets you super excited? Do you love the big trips or the smaller trips better?

Until next time,

Mental Health Break: And because I was super busy yesterday!

Just wanted to take a quick break to wish a teensy-bit-delayed HAPPY FATHER'S DAY to all of the dads out there!!! You definitely deserve a super-special day for all of your love and dedication! We never get to appreciate our parents enough, in my opinion!

Father's Day is usually a toss-up for me. Sometimes, I have a great day, and sometimes I'm just in a bummed kind of mood. This year was a mixture of both because as many of you know, Daddy Chicken Wing passed away when I was just a little chicken wing, and therefore Father's Day, his birthday, and all other holidays have the potential to be tough for me and my family.

We did have a great time, though, because we all got to get together on Mama Chicken Wing's side of the family to celebrate the day. I was only a little sad later, so I would call this year's celebration a huge success! :-)

I hope that each of you had a great day, and got to reach out to your dads. I always encourage my friends to hug their dads often, but especially on this day, because you never know what the future holds.

I know that I ended my day with a very long prayer, thanking God for my wonderful family and friends, because I have been blessed with a lot of love in my life, and for that, I am eternally grateful. I hope that each and every one of you had that type of feeling too - one of thanks.

In the words of Billy Currington, "God is great, beer is good, and people are crazy."*

Love to you all,
Chicken Wing

*Please note that we didn't actually drink beer on Father's Day. It's just the lyrics of a great and fun song! HeHe!

Relationship Stress? Give this song a listen!

Every now and again, Mr. Chicken Wing and I will banter back and forth and occasionally, that banter gets downright annoying!

Sometimes, it's all fun and games, and sometimes it's just mundane.

But, I think one of the best lessons that I've begun to learn in this 5+ year relationship we've been on is that sometimes you just have to let go and quit worrying every time you start to pick on each other.

Instead of going the "woe is me" route and thinking that our relationship is falling apart because we "just can't get along" or because "he's picking on me" (which I might have been known to do once or twice...), sometimes just accept it and move on.

I know that Mr. Chicken Wing is a great guy, and he knows that I'm a great gal. Sometimes, we just have off days.

The reason for this post is that when you're pushing each other in the physical fitness department, sometimes you're going to bicker. (Yes, that's right...we're kicking each others' butts. The beach trip is coming soon, and we're trying to save the other beach-goers' eyesights!)

Usually, that bickering then leads to who didn't put their dishes in the sink, or who hasn't unloaded the dishwasher today. I know, it's wayyyyyy less glamourous than some would dilusion themselves to believe! But, after 5 years, I think we're still on the right track - towards domestic bliss! HAHA!

Either way, I came across this song by an artist that I absolutely adore, Ingrid Michaelson. You might remember her BIG moment, when her song "Keep Breathing" debuted on Grey's Anatomy.

This song, called "Giving Up," is lyrical greatness, and completely speaks to me.

Turn those speakers up and give it a listen! (And support her, because she is fabulous!)

The Simple Truth: Further Evidence of Dancing Genius

With the genius of the choreographers to come up with the stories that they do, and the emotion that they do, it is then the responsibility of the dancers themselves to convey that vision to the audience. I support this show because I believe in the chance that these dancers can gather from being discovered on this program.

Please see the following videos. I do not own any rights to these clips, the dance numbers, the dancers, etc. All content belongs to FOX and Dick Clark Productions, Inc.

Lacey and Kameron - Contemporary - Probably my all-time favorite

Special Video - This viewer's 3 Fave Dances
1. Hip Hop - Pasha and Lacey (who is now a pro on Dancing with the Stars)
2. Hip Hop - Twitch and Katie
3. Hip Hop - Mark and Chelsea (who is now a pro on Dancing with the Stars)

Twitch and Kherington - Viennese Waltz - GORGEOUS!

Stay tuned for more updates throughout this season!

Follow-Up Post on SYTYCD!

I wanted to include this video clip from a few seasons ago on So You Think You Can Dance but I was rushing through the last post (obviously, I had to watch tonight's episode!).

This is the audition for Anya Garnis and her partner Pasha, who eventually made the Top 20 and went through the competition for quite a few weeks. They are ballroom dance partners, and had one of the HOTTEST auditions to EVER grace the So You Think You Can Dance stage!

Nigel (the head judge) and Dan (another judge) were practically drooling, and you shall soon see why.

Please note: I do not own any rights to this segment. All rights belong to FOX and the SYTYCD franchise.

Okay, prepare yourselves...here they are: Anya and Pasha!

OH MY GOSH I LOVE THIS SHOW,
Chicken Wing

Time to Share Something I Love!

One of my favorite shows on television is So You Think You Can Dance on FOX. I seriously believe that it might just be the best thing that's ever happened to the world as far as reality TV goes.

Now, don't get me wrong...I love Dancing with the Stars, American Idol, and pretty much any DIY or design show on HGTV - all of which are reality shows. But, for some reason, I always get the MOST excited when SYTYCD comes on.

I think the reason why I get so much more obsessive about the show (as in a I-have-to-watch-it-or-I-might-just-die kind of thing) is because I used to be a dancer. No, not that kind of dancer - I trained in ballet, tap, jazz, modern, lyrical, clogging, and toe (on pointe) for 15 years of my life. That's a huge part of my upbringing and I know how hard it is to make it in the world of professional dance. This show is so ground-breaking (much like Idol), because the people who compete on the show actually get jobs because of people discovering their particular talent, using this show as their vehicle.

For example, several have made it to Broadway, there have been a few that have major roles in major motion pictures....not to mention the endless music video and backup dancer opportunities that come their way. I adore that about the show, because these people could have continued to struggle for years, but they got their shot because this show served as a platform.

The judges actually know what they are talking about, as every single one has been a professional dancer (in their own genres) and they are all choreographers. When they critique a number, it has validity and value. That is something that impresses me.

Not to mention, the Top 10 dancers get to go on tour all around the country. Yes, I have been to multiple tours with Familia de Chicken Wing and yes, I do own a t-shirt. HAHA! I told you, it's serious! But look at the following photos and you will see the extraordinary talent that gets discovered via this program. (And yes, I am that girl who memorizes the choreography as to capture the perfect shot!)

Off to watch my fave reality show,
Miss "Got-the-dance-fever" Chicken Wing

Awesomeness for this week!

Okay, whenever I find things that I think are completely awesome, I have vowed to share them with my loyal followers (you guys!).

This is something that is completely AWESOME! The talent that this guy has is insane!

I wonder how long it took him to learn to play like this. You may have to adjust your speakers accordingly, but trust me, it is absolutely worth a listen.

I seriously think I would bow down to this musical genius! ;)

Seriously, tell me that is not fabulous!

Please note: I do not own the rights to anything concerning this video. This video comes from YouTube user guitar90, and all credit should be given to him.

Until next time,

Chicken Wing Music Review: Kelly Clarkson "All I Ever Wanted"

Okay, I've got to share some opinions about what I'm currently listening to, which is Kelly Clarkson's newest album "All I Ever Wanted."

This album, which has been featured on the MTV hit reality series The Hills, is absolutely fabulous in my opinion. To me, each song has a very different sound, which I love about the album. It really has something for everyone.

For me, the stand-outs are "I Want You," which is 100% cute, "Save You," which can get super-duper stuck in your head, "Long Shot," a catchy song written by Katy Perry, and "Already Gone," which really showcases Kelly's vocal control. If you're looking for powerhouse ballads, she has those too, with "Cry" and "If No One Will Listen."

After her last album (which I was none-too-interested in), I thought she might be headed down Has-Been lane, and what a shame that would have been, as I really do love her voice.

This album, however, is a winner! That's why I'm listening to it right now! :) (You should too!)

Until next time,
A jamming-out Miss Chicken Wing

Okay, I have a new stalking victim!

And here she is, the J.Crew navy blue ruffle dress:

I love how it's a classic take on a wrap dress, but the ruffles really make it ultra feminine. I could just see wearing this from a work day with flats to a bridal shower or wedding with high heels.

The only thing we can do is sit and wait because as of right now, it is unfortunately out of the budget. Mayyyyybbbeeeee it will come down????

Fingers Crossed,
Miss Chicken Wing

SOOOOO EXCITED!!!!!

Okay, now there are many things that I get excited about, but one of the things that most gets my blood pumping is when there is something I want and I get it for a steal!

Such is the case with my new LUGGAGE SET! Is it just any luggage set, you ask? NOOOO, I say! It is the Diane Von Furstenburg fuschia luggage set! Yes, it's true! Your ears are working! I have finally scored the DVF luggage set that I've been drooling over/viciously internet stalking for the longest time!

And, don't worry...I'm not going to tease you. I've got the eye candy right here!

I know I don't need anyone to point out the fabulous-ness of this set, but it is just exquisite in person! (You can click the photo to make it larger if you need to). My love affair with TJ Maxx continues! Great labels, even better deals, and fantastic products that you just can't find for that price anywhere!
Now I just need somewhere to go! I need plans, people! :)
Until next time,

Taking a Mental Break

Well, two things seem to be very consistent lately....I am super busy and frazzled at work, and thunderstorms must be in fashion!

I just decided to take a mental break from databases/Excel spreadsheets and create a quick post for my faithful followers, who have no doubt been bored at my lack of posting lately! I'm truly sorry. Sometimes, after looking at a computer all day at work, it is the last thing I want to do when I get home.

Plus, my first (and second) issue of Real Simple magazine finally came!!!!! So, I have been preoccupied reading that! What a great weekend I just had, though! Friday night, Mr. Chicken Wing and I went to dinner with two of our best friends, Mr. & Mrs. Hokie (again, nicknames to protect the sources). Then, we all went to see The Hangover which I already explained in a previous post was the funniest movie I've seen thus far in my existence. Then, as if that wasn't enough, we went to Dairy Queen and enjoyed some dessert!

After all of that fun, Mr. Chicken Wing and I went to Mama Chicken Wing's house to spend the night. Saturday morning consisted of the fur-babies' haircuts (also known as the dogs had grooming appointments), and then we all went to Grandma & Papa Chicken Wing's house to spend the morning portion of the day. Then, it was back home for Mr. Chicken Wing and I.

We weren't done yet! Mr. Chicken Wing decided to relax at home and watch some movies that he had Netflix'd. (None of which were of interest to me, and as it turns out, neither were very good to him, as well.) I, on the other hand, decided to relax at a pool party with my work buddies! Great times!

Sunday was a relaxing day...I spent a good amount of time on my back patio getting a suntan and reading the first issue of my magazine. Of course, there had to be time allotted to cleaning the house and playing with the puppies!

So, all in all, it was a great weekend! On this hectic Hump Day, it all seems so far away! Hopefully, this weekend will be just as fun! :)

To all my readers, I hope you're having a great week and staying dry where you are!

Chicken Wing Movie Review: The Hangover

Okay, in all seriousness, this movie can be summed up in five words.

1. FUNNIEST
2. MOVIE
3. I'VE
4. EVER
5. SEEN

Yeah, that pretty much covers it. The language was vulgar (which is typical), there was nudity (who's really surprised anymore?), but the overall package should easily add up to the most hilarious movie of the summer. What a knee-slapper!

Oh, and hopefully this was NOT based on a true story! HAHA!

So, my advice: If you're in need of a laugh and don't get offended easily, get your behinds to the theaters and go check out "The Hangover." I think you will find that it's worth the money!

Until next time,
Chicken Wing

Chicken Wing Movie Review: Taken

Well, Mr. Chicken Wing and I watched 'Taken' with Liam Neeson the other day, and I thought I'd take this opportunity to give you a quick Chicken Wing Movie Review.

I thought the movie was great! Liam Neeson absolutely captured the essence of his role - I wouldn't want to make him mad and then meet him in a dark alley! :-)

I think the BEST part, though, was that the movie was not scary...I wasn't terrified to go to sleep after watching it. I'd describe it as intense, but thrilling...it definitely kept you guessing and there were some cliffhanger moments where you wondered if he'd accomplish his goal in time.

Was it the best movie I've ever seen? No.

Was it worthy of making it onto our Netflix queue? Absolutely!

You should check it out if you get the chance! Feel free to let me know what you thought about it - I don't mind if your opinion differs from mine. Who knows? You might just find a movie that you decide you have to buy because of this review! (Just kidding. I'm not that vain, really!)
[Insert halo here.]

Until next time,

Saying that I'm SO EXCITED doesn't even begin to cover it!

It seems that the second installment of the Twilight phenomenon, New Moon, is set to be released on November 20th. I, for one, CANNOT wait.

Last night on the MTV Movie Awards, they showed a much-anticipated clip of the film, and it looks absolutely AWESOME!!!!!!

SPOILER ALERT: IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THE SECOND BOOK, NEW MOON, PLEASE DO NOT CLICK THE LINK BELOW, BECAUSE IT WILL RUIN SOME THINGS FOR YOU!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJ9afRgToxE

The anticipation is absolutely killing me, and based on the trailer alone, it looks like it could be even better than the original Twilight movie, believe it or not!

Are there any movies coming up that you are very excited about? Are you Twilighters out there?

Can't wait until 11/20,
Miss Chicken Wing

Sad/Excited???

Not sure how to feel, because....

Mr. is gone for a business trip.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO to that in a big way!

On one hand, it will be pretty lonely when he is gone - and quiet.

But.....on the other hand, I get to control the remote, eat what I want, listen to girly music, read, and DO WHATEVER I WANT, so that part is exciting! HAHA! Either way, should be an interesting week! I hope mine goes well, and I surely each and every one of you have an awesome week, too!

Always,
Miss Chicken Wing
